2007 Dragon Boat Day

2006 Dragon Boat Team sponsored by the Dublin Jack
About
If you think you would like to be in the team, before you respond there are a few things to bear in mind...
- there is a financial commitment - last year it was about $1000 per
person, which covers a shirt, registration, steerers (for trainning and race day) and a cheaper price the junk on the day. I will know more once I have numbers for this year. _>
- there is also a time commitment - probably 10 sundays in the lead
up to dragon boat day ie 15 April to 17 June. You need to commit to turn up to the majority of trainings, because if we don't have the numbers at training then we can't take the boat out. So, it's not just about paddling on the day.
- commitments to GAA - we have a shocking clash of dates this year
with dragon boat day being on 19 June and the Asians being on 23-24 June. There will be a Summer League on Saturday afternoons and of course training sessions on other days so many of you may not want to give up part of your Sunday as well. Dragon boating won't be getting in the way of preparations for the Asian Games so may not be a viable option for those in all out training.
THAT SAID, dragon boat day is a great day and all the more fun if you are out on the water having a paddle. The Sunday afternoon trainings are also fun as the weather is really nice, you get a bit of exercise and there is always time for a well-earned ale in Stanley after training. The team would be social so we will not be taking ourselves too seriously - but we definitely need to get some trainings in so we don't sink!
With the close proximity to the Asian games this year, we would encourage the more "social" players, non-playing members, friends (who would like to become members!) and family to get involved.
If we do have sufficient interest and commitment, then there will be a team this year, but we need to know soon so we can get our entry in!
So if you are keen, drop me an email and we will see how things pan out.
Cheers, Anna

2006 Dragon Boat Festival

The ladies in 2005
This year the club entered a mixed men's and ladies team in the Festival's mixed section. Despite tough competition the team faired well but excelled later on partying on the junk and into the night in the streets of Stanley. Plenty of pictures can be found in the gallery section.
2005 Dragon Boat Day

No Good Grasshoppers take to the water in 2005
Both teams did amazingly well, the Nooo Good Grasshoppers, coming 4th in their pening heat, qualifying for the Cup where an overweight boat (give everyone a game !!) by two came eighth out of ten.
The Celtic Dragons (girls) started slowly in the morning, coming ninth in their opening race, but finished strongly in the Plate Final to come six and win a cup.
Congrats all - roll on next year.
Photos of the day are in the gallery.
