North Asian Games June 2010
Seamus, Walter and Frances were the sum total that the HK men could muster for the weekend but what they lacked in numbers they made up for in enthusiasm (and age!). The makeshift Seoul Aussie Bar accepted them with open arms and after 2 or 3 rounds of introductions they nearly pulled off the shock of the tournament by coming within a kick of a ball of upsetting tournament holders and favorites Seoul Celts in the first game of the day. They built on that despite (or because of) Seamus crying off injured (apparently hamstring but it was getting hot and there were girls with short skorts playing on another pitch) and Seoul Aussie Bar fought their way through to the Plate final against the Japan/Shanghai combined team. Walter demonstrated the best of Mayo wrestling skills in successfully pulling/dragging/humping the Shanghai star forward to the point of distraction and Seoul Aussie Bar ran out Plate winners in a tightly contested game. From there it gets a bit blurry as these things do but good times were had by all with Francis particularly enjoying the chance to get out of Hong Kong and smoke indoors for a change!

North Asian Games June 2010
On 18th June a small but keen contingent headed off to Seoul to represent HK in the games. There was a full ladies team, and a few stranglers from the men’s section. One of the two lone males, in particular was keen to be travelling with so many ladies in their company. There were high hopes all round! The Korean club entertained us well in Itaewon on Friday night. Rather than drinking the night away, some opted to scavenge around for sandwiches and snacks for the next day, as we were told there was no food pitch side. Saturday morning saw us up early and travelling in a convoy of coaches, trying not to get lost on the way to the ‘football academy’ where we were playing. HK wisely used the time to develop team tactics and have some one-on-one football talk. The shock of the altitude nearly sent us all back on the bus, but we adjusted slowly. There were five men’s teams and four women’s teams. Unfortunately the pitches were not side by side so we only got to see the early stags of the women’s competition, and the finals. HK ladies first game was against a Japan combined team. We managed a victory but it was a limped start. Korea Hollywood came out in the second game, guns ablaze! They come at us like a hurricane. We managed to close down the goal but walked away knowing that we had learned a lesson. Next up was Korea Syntek, this was a much closer game where HK started to realise they could keep up with these players. We narrowly lost but the result got us into the semi-final against the same team. The semi-final saw HK lift their game immensely. The mid fielders worked hard to close down the options. They were supported by Diana and Shelley on the half-forward line. The forwards put away some nice scores. There was a lot more teamwork evident in this game. To help us along, we had Clara behind the goals assisting Dee Bradbury who stepped up to the difficult job of being goalie. Seamus, due to an injury, was on our sideline for most of the games. Michelle was a great help to our subs. The mood was positive for the final; we had it all to play for. It was a new pitch with a bigger audience. This time we were mentally stronger and not intimidated by players who could actually solo the ball…we just stayed with them. It was fantastic to see so many HK players lift their game to match Korea Hollywood. Our defence worked really hard and forced the Koreas to change their game. Katrina stuck like velco to the Korean No. 3 (Brona Malone) and prevented her from scoring for most of the game. The combination of our midfield and half-backs double marking the Korean midfielders (Ealga Ni Aodha and Norah Newcombe), worked well. HK had to work hard to get the ball into our attacking half. Korea were fast to the ball and read it well. Our forwards took their chances well, with Shelley charging through to claim the only HK goal. The end scoreline of 2-4 to 1-2 does not reflect the level of play during the game. It was a tough final.

During 2008 the HKGAA had organised tours to Penang (Malaysia) for Asian Gaelic Games, Beijing (All China Games), Bangkok (Asian Invitational) and Taiwan (Murav Cup) These followed on from tours to Dubai, exotic Dublin, Singapore and Shanghai in the previous year. The HKGAA are the reigning Men's Asian Champions. Whilst the football is taken seriously around the business end of the season, the tours are as much about fun than anything else.
In the website, you should find plenty of information, photographs about the what's going on at the club, it's brief but interesting history, info on how to join, go training, play in the Summer League, who to contact, when is training, the social events, the tours etc

Paddy on the spot has the latest from Ping Pong Penang below!!
ASIAN GAMES 2008
Saturday Morning In the spirit of what the Jockey club has done for Hong Kong, the Asian Gaelic Games 2008 is brought to you as a 2 mile horse racing festival of jumping...... 9:12......and we're off
The Hong Kong Ladies B team under the mount of Ruth Wynne got off to a flyer, reaching the first fence of HKSB and cleared it with room to spare.
Next up were the Hong Kong Mens B team, who with buckshot getting on the whip a little early in the race, stumbled at the first fence to Singapore C team, they then regained composure with great agility and ably cleared a hefty Taiwan fence!!
The Hong Kong Mens A team had the bit between their teeth from an early start off time, and so far have dealt well with the challanges of both Sngapore A and Japan A. There is a question of juicing in the Hong Kong camp, as this horse looks very strong....urine testing post race has not been ruled out.
The spotters are on the course and have reported that the Hong Kong ladies A team, although unseen at this stage is being held up toward the back of the field by Steve Martin. They are due at 1pm to tackle the Malaysia A fence, and then at 3pm against the water jump that is Shanghai A.
Saturday Evening Update!
With the Saturday evening Penang bend rounded, the latest we have from the Asian Gaelic games Group 1 Challange is as follows:
HK Mens A team has cleared all 5 fences in front of them, some tough competition in Shanghai and Dubai, but the surprise horse so far has been Qatar putting it up to the steamroller that is HK.
The Mens B team has fought off the challange of Malaysia in its latest clearance, and has now positioned itself on the rail, and in the quarter final of the plate.
The Ladies A team took off like a juggernaut when they were found at the halfway point of the course, going through their first two fences, not even going over them, when it came to Shanghai A, their tails were up, and they cleared it with 5 points to spare......they have one more fence to go on Sunday morning in the shape of Singapore A, but Elaine Morgan’s mount has already positioned itself in the semi-finals of the cup with the usual horses present from the last couple of years...Korea, Dubai, Singapore A and our own Hong Kong A.
The Ladies B team has put together a wonderful race so far......it would remind you of sea biscuit...full of heart and determination. Unfortunately they’ve come up against some very high fences in Korea A and Dubai A, but they’ve done themselves proud and are hitting the home straight with a final sprint for the plate.
As we round onto the home straight today we’ll give it to you like this..... Hong Kong Mens A are heading the field with a semi-final place, John O and Cozie have the whip out, but have not engaged it yet. The mens B team is overcoming all obstacles in their way and have run very smartly into a quarter final plate position, showing that it’s not always the sprinters that bring home the silverware. The Ladies A team is cruising up the field at a ferocious pace with a semi-final of the cup lurking over the next furlong. The Ladies B team have their ears back, the blinkers on and are in a bowl final.......it’s all to race for at the moment!!!!
Sunday Morning
And the latest update we have from the course sees the Hong Kong men’s A team going head to head with Korea A, 2 furlongs out, or in layman’s terms in the semi-finals. The Ladies A team stumbles at the Singapore A fence this morning, but this had little effect as they were already in the semi-final against Dubai ladies A later in the day. Perhaps hitting that fence will spur them on to greater things....just the shock they needed!
The story of the day has to come from calls for a judicial review of the way the Japan ladies played.....there was great surprise when they lost their final qualifing round game to the combined team (Japan didn't score anything!) a fact which saw them go into the bowl final (which they subsequently won, beating the same combined team by 8 points to no score ... go figure!).....this act sees the Hong Kong Ladies B team promoted to the plate semi-final where they're in the running with Shanghai A....this could be a tough hurdle for the Ladies B team, who have galloped valiantly to this point, and could be forced out by this unseating of the Japanese rider.
Stay tuned for the latest as we approach the final furlongs in this intriguing race
Sunday Afternoon....Latest!
As if a re-run of the same race last year, the Ladies A team faced off against Dubai over the second last hurdle, and after losing a key player in Leesa in the last group game, this was always going to be a tough affair. Nip and tuck is how it went....but unfortunately the Dubai ladies got their nose in front to the tune of one point....and our Ladies A team fall at a familiar hurdle at the semi-final stage.
The Ladies B team had a very tough task laid out in front of them, an uphill struggle facing an A team in a plate semi-final, but equip themselves well they did, holding firm for much of the game, but falling in the end to the Shanghai Ladies A team.
The Mens B team, as if taking a leaf out of the others book, played hard and fast (I know who was on the team, it's a figure of speech), before falling in extra time to Dubai B in the plate quarter final. Dubai B were the eventual winners of the Plate and have since been severely warned by the ACB for using an A team player in their quarter final and semi final games.
Which leaves only one Hong Kong team remaining....the Mens A team, the Stallions of the race....they face off in their second to final jump against a stout Korean team...who's claim to fame last year was beating the Hong Kong mens A team (and they have a framed signed Hong Kong jersey with the scoreline to prove it!!), while the other competitors left in the race are the Singapore A team against the dark horse of the race...Qatar.
Continuation of the Juggernaut
The latest has Hong Kong Mens A team charging up the hill toward the finish line....they've not only cleared the second last hurdle...they cleared it in a canter...Hong Kong Mens A 2-9, Korea A 1-3. It's a neck in neck race now to the finish between Hong Kong and Singapore A, who dealt with the troublesome Qatar earlier. The final is scheduled for around 5, get your bets down, your beverage in hand and cross whatever bodily extremeties provide you with luck....hold onto your hats people, here we go!!!!
The finish line has been Reached
As with all good things...they must come to an end, and the Hong Kong mens A team arrived at the finish line just a couple of moments ago after besting Singapore in what can best be described as a "Physical affair". To be more honest it looked like the finishing stretch of the Aintree Grand National, with bodies' littering the course everywhere and just the sturdy few making it over the line to a deafening roar. Singapore have been on the end of some beatings by Hong Kong over the last few years, and it seems in this final has decided that the fair option was not going to work to their advantage, so they decided to add some weight to the Hong Kong saddle in the shape of pulling and dragging. Our mighty men took on the battle and stuck to the game plan...points will win most games, and so it was that Hong Kong came out on top 0-8 to 0-3.
A wonderful win....three in a row for the Men's A team, the B team and the Ladies teams fought valiently but unfortunately succumbed to stronger opposition in some cases, to bad luck in others.
For now, thats all from Patrick, hope the gang in Ping Pong Penang have a mighty session tonight, and even though there is no Tierney this year, surely with 2 flights to get home, someone is going to get left behind.
The main entourage land back at 10:30 tomorrow night, pints and more in delaney's I'm guessing, but keep checking the website for further updates as to the celebrations, the commiserations, and the many many stories after the weekend.

Congratulations to all winners and all participants of the Social Summer League.
Saturday 28 June was the culmination and the crescendo of two months of fierce competition, hits, slagging, jeering, bitching, moaning - the likes of which has never been experienced before - with some very good football thrown in as well. In all seriousness, some of the play was extremely competitive.
The tables and results page has been updated. Roll on 2009 !

Kilmacud Crokes Sevens - Dublin
Follow the results by clicking here
Hong Kong broke new ground again this year by competing in the Kilmacud Crokes Sevens. Unfancied at the start, Hong Kong were drawn in Group 2, playing on the main pitches, up against Bryansford (Down), Cregan Kickhams (Antrim), and Tuam Stars (Galway). The only disappointment HK caused the spectators was the failure to produce a team of Chinese players.
First up was Bryansford, a tight game in the first half, HK stole an early lead but Bryansford battled back, displaying some of the guise that made them the 3 time champions of the Kilmacud Sevens, previous year's semi finalists and one of the favourites for the favourites, to lead by a point at half time. The second half started tight, but HK pressed the accelerator and eventually won out by 8-9 to 4-12, causing a few raised eyebrows. At the same time, sports radio news desks reported the win as a shock win, and the Ladbrokes odds tumbled to 25-1 from 100-1 before the start of the second game.
Against Tuam Stars in the second match, HK started well converting point after point to lead 5 points to 1 point when a Tuam player came out the worse from Cozie's shoulder charge. A long break in play interupted HK's control on the game and Tuam fought back to lead by a point at half time. The second half remained tight, before HK sped away again, and also hitting the post time and again. Somehow though a 5pt lead was not good enough and two late goals, one with the last kick of the game, caused Tuam to win by 2points. Disappointing in the end, the game was in the bag twice. In the end the result did not matter as Cregan Kickhams, won both their first two games, and qualification from the group would go to the winner of the last game between Kickhams and HK.
The tiredness that showed late in the TUam game continued from the start against Kickhams. It was here when HK was properly introduced to Sevens Ulster style. Kickhams scored almost with every possession. HK chased goals but could not break down the Kickhams flat defence. In the end a large margin of victory for Kickhams. Fair play, by far the better side, but the score did not reflect HK's chances and share of possession in the game.
Overall, HK performed very well and provided great exposure for the game in Hong Kong and indeed across Asia. A huge thanks to all the supporters from across Ireland and those from Asia who came along to support. A very big thanks to jim Chester and Cognitive Solutions for sponsoring the team. And to Tsunami and Kukri for arranging late on the kit for the event.
Sadly the closesness of Kilmacud caused HK to miss out on the All China Games - the absence of so many players, wives and girlfriends made it impossible to get teams from Dublin via Hong Kong to Dalian in a week.

The 2007 All China Games were held in Dalian on 23 September 2007. The hosts, Dalian GAA, were formed in 2006 when they entered their first team in the Asian Games. Teams from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen took part in separate ladies and mens competitions. Unfortunately Hong Kong were unable to make the event this year. It would have been the 4th trip of the year for many after Dubai, Singapore and Dublin.
Beijing Ladies came out victorious in the Ladies competition and Shanghai beat Dalian in the final of the Men's competition. Congratulations to all.

Dublin Jack Gaelic Football League 2007
http://www.gaa.hk/albums/album49/Summer_League_Poster.sized.jpg| Played over six weeks, the League finished up on Saturday 26th May at Kings Park, with teams competing in knock out format for the Feargal Cleary Cup (Men) and the Jo Lacy Cup (Ladies). High drama all afternoon, Father Murphys had to win their last league game to ensure a semi final against what had been the whipping boys O'Tooles, a very tight game was released into life, when JJ Neville put on his clown suit and started taking kick outs for St Kevins, ensuring a comfortable victory for Father Murphys. They did not have it all their own way against the O Tooles though, and goal of the tournament came when Kinsella sent in a 45yard pass over the defence to the hands of Rory Hussey who finished calmly. That was not enough to stop Father Murphys who were to play a rampant Kowloon Kickhams in a energy sapping final. Father Murphys won by a narrow point 6-6 to 6-5 in what was a game of high quality from both sides.
In the Ladies, Na Fianna, winners of the league could not find a way past the Setantas goalkeeper in their semi and were beaten by the odd goal. Setantas met a strong Colmcilles in the final and could find no match for the running of McMullan and Keim, with Colmcilles winning out in the end.
Overall it was a hugely successful league with about 150 players playing over 2 months in 8 teams. Whilst there'll be 10 month gap to the next league, new players are always welcome and there's still time to sign up to our tour to Singapore at the end of June, or Dalian in September. If you are interested e-mail Alan Baxter or Nora Ni Mhuimhneachain if you are interested in playing. The club caters for all standards, whether you have or haven't played the game or know what the game is about.

Dubai Gulf Games 2007
http://www.gaa.hk/albums/Friday-Football/CIMG0957.sized.jpg| Hong Kong A beaten by a solitary last minute point by Limivady in the final The club sent its Mens A team to compete in the excellently organised Gulf Games in Dubai in January this year. Twelve teams competed in the Mens A Cup section, and the team did very well in winning all five of its league games in difficult hot conditions, before meeting old foes Dubai in the semi final. After serving up the game of the tournament in the Asian Gaelic Games semi final, they served up another cracker in Dubai, with Hong Kong playing their best football yet. In the final against a strong Limavady Wolfhounds senior team from Derry, Hong Kong failed to take advantage of the first half wind and early opportunities - losing out by a last minute point. A total of 30 club members traveled to Dubai. Well done to Cozie (captain) and the lads on a great effort. Congratulations to Dubai Celts on a great event, the event also coincided with the Vodafone All Stars Tour. The HK results over the weekend were:-
Final - Hong Kong lost by a single point to Limavady, Co Derry. 3-5 to 4-1
Semi-final - vs Dubai HK won by 7 points
Game 5 - vs St Vincents B - HK won by about 8 goals.
Game 4 - vs Neasdon Gaels - HK won a close game 1-5 to 1-2.
Game 3 - vs Limavady B - HK won by several goals
Game 2 - vs Dubai B - 'After a lax first half HK took over in the second half.'
Game 1 - vs Fulham Irish, London - HK won by about 11 goals
Upcoming Tours
HKGAA's highlight of the year is the annual Asian Gaelic Games (June 2007), which this year is being held in Singapore. It true Singapore style, we expect that it will be an event that will outdo all others. The club is looking forward to sending a number of teams as well a contingent of supporters. More details will be made available to members later. But for anyone that doesn't know, the event is more than just a football tournament.
Asian Gaelic Games - Shanghai 2006
http://www.gaa.hk/albums/album45/270093095_361d3c1128_001.jpg| Antje Keim of Hong Kong in the Ladies Semi-final v Shanghai, 2006 The 2006 Asian Gaelic Games were hosted by Shanghai Gaelic Football Club last September for the 2nd year in succession. Over 30 teams competed over two days and 4 pitches in the hope of becoming the Mens and Ladies Gaelic Football Champions. In the ladies section, our A team won all before them on Saturday before competing against Beijing in the semi-final (a repeat of the previous year) with Hong Kong this time coming out on top. A final against Dubai A, HK's fast becoming arch rivals loomed, and the team was unlucky to lose by a single point after extra time, the 2nd time in 4 years that the ladies have lost in that way. Congratulations to Dubai and also to Hong Kong's Antje Keim for winning player of the tournament. Our B team competed brilliantly in the B competition topping their league on the Saturday by winning 6 and drawing one of their games. A gruesome day, their reward was to be prompted into the A Cup quarter final against Dubai A. Despite trying their best, they could not match the eventual champions and exited the competition graciously knowing they beat all their peers and would have faired well against most other A team sides.
In the Men's Competition our B team started off to a draw against Taiwan A in the "A" competition. Despite going an early two goals up against Japan A in their next game, injuries started to kick in and they eventually lost out by 4 points. A further defeat to Korea, saw them exit the competition only to strangely resurrect themselves in the Plate with most of the same teams that they played the day before. An early morning Sunday defeat to a decent Taiwan side, saw them hit the stalls early.
http://www.gaa.hk/albums/album45/IMG_0677.jpg|The Hong Ladies B team Our Men's A team chugged along nicely on Saturday getting their game in order for the Sunday's semis. Coming out on top, an open semi final draw resulted in a semi against the competitions other top side - Dubai. A very tense early Sunday morning game, Hong Kong pulled away early before Dubai clawed it back by half time. Again HK pulled away, winning a tension filled encounter. For many it was more difficult to watch if you were a Hong Kong supporter, given Hong Kong's extra time defeat to Dubai in the previous year. Acknowledgment must be given to Dubai for the manner and the spirit they played this game. Hong Kong's opponents in the final was Singapore. Singapore, with a depleted squad (because of non-travelers) did very well to get to the final beating arch rivals Japan and the hosts Shanghai in an exciting quarter final. However, Singapore struggled to keep up with a full flowing Hong Kong side who won out by seven goals in a game commentated on by the legendary Micheal O Muircheartaigh - who commented that Singapore would have more of a chance against King Kong than Hong Kong. Congratulations to Singapore for fighting to the end and to our own Will Murray who won the Player of the Tournament.
A huge thanks and congratulations to Shanghai, the hosts, for the wonderful attentive organization. Blessed with great facilities, they made the most out of them and all from Hong Kong had a great weekend. Enjoy the well earned break from hosting the event, as we look forward to Singapore in June 2007.

Guinness Asian Gaelic Games - Penang 2008
Just a couple of weeks before the Asian Championships kickoff in Penang on Oct 10th-12th. It's time to pull out all the stops...get the last of that fitness program finished...get injuries seen to.
Most importantly, stock up on protein, cut out the junk food and minimise the alcohol. (Note it didn't say stop, we don't want total shock to damage those bodies!)
We are 6-7 training sessions away from the first of our games. It would be great if as many people come down to those sessions as possible to get used to playing as a team.

The Mens B team, as if taking a leaf out of the others book, played hard and fast (I know who was on the team, it's a figure of speech), before falling in the bowl semi-final.
The Ladies B team has put together a wonderful race so far......it would remind you of sea biscuit...full of heart and determination. Unfortunately they’ve come up against some very high fences in Korea A and Dubai A, but they’ve done themselves proud and are hitting the home straight with a final sprint for the bowl.

We'll have more as it comes in on the wires......!
Sunday Morning....Latest!
Sunday Morning
The Mens B team, as if taking a leaf out of the others book, played hard and fast (I know who was on the team, it's a figure of speech), before falling in the bowl semi-final.
We'll have more as it comes in on the wires......!
Sunday Morning....Pending!
Sunday Morning....Latest!
The story of the day has to come from calls for a judicial review of the way the Japan ladies played.....it would appear that they threw a game purposefully in order to get into the bowl final.....this act sees the Hong Kong Ladies B team promoted to the plate semi-final where they're in the running with Shanghai A....this could be a tough hurdle for the Ladies B team, who have galloped valiantly to this point, and could be forced out by this unseating of the Japanese rider.
Stay tuned for the latest as we approach the final furlongs in this intriguing race

Saturday Evening Update!
Sunday Morning....Pending!
So far so good in the Asian Games 2008 Grade 1 challenge brought to you by Patrick Power bookmaking....stay tuned!!!!
As alarming at this sounds Paddy appears to have gone missing. He was last seen at lunch yesterday with pint in hand and has not yet returned. So just to update you until the funny man himself has been located the results of yesterday and going into today are as follows: A Men won all games - although it has been stated that it is one of the toughest competitions yet. Womens A are out to prove that they too are a force to be reckoned with and also go into day two unbeaten. Mens B start their day off in the Plate quarter final and Ladies B in the bowl Semi Final. Things are definately geeing up for a great day. Over and out from a random roving reporter.
Hopefully Paddy will be found to give you a more indepth report soon .....
Unfortunately they’ve come up against some very high fences in Korea A and Dubai A, but they’ve done themselves proud and are hitting the home straight with a final sprint for the bowl.
As we round onto the home straight today we’ll give it to you like this..... Hong Kong Mens A are heading the field with a semi-final place, JohNO and Cozie have the whip out, but have not engaged it yet.

In the spirit of what the Jockey club has done for Hong Kong, the Asian Gaelic Games 2008 is brought to you as a 2 mile horse racing festival of jumping...... 9:12......and we're off
The Hong Kong Ladies B team under the mount of Ruth Wynn got off to a flyer, reaching the first fence of HKSB and cleared it with room to spare.
Next up were the Hong Kong Mens B team, who with buckshot getting on the whip a little early in the race, stumbled at the first fence to Singapore C team, they then regained composure with great agility and ably cleared a hefty Taiwan fence!!
The Hong Kong Mens team had the bit betwee their teeth from an early start off time, and so far have dealt well with the challanges of both Sngapore A and Japan A.

FERGAL POWER:An Appreciation Fergal Power is an absolute bollix! Yes you heard me! An absolute booollllix! How else could you explain the fact that he has been making everybody else in this club look bad since 2002? What do I mean? I’ll feckin tell you what I mean! Through his hard work , positive attitude ,organization, planning, logistical ability and financial rectitude, he has left the rest of us paling in comparison. Every GAA club needs naysayers and begrudgers who grumble and complain on the sidelines, this is the essence of its democratic roots, but this absolute bollix from North Dublin has made it consistently difficult for us…….. errm…….. them to bitch about things with a clear conscience.
His first appearance at an AGM resulted in abject defeat for the chairmanship, as the assembled hoards were faced with the choice of a dirty great big haveril from Sligo and this besuited young up-start with a pink tie talking about something called morketing. Of course the dirty great big haveril won, as dirty great big haverils have always won in GAA, and also because we didn’t seewhat a badly dressed alien Robin Williams had to do with our hallowed national game.
The following year Fergal went down in History as the only man in the history of the club to have time- traveled -he resigned ten minutes before he was elected chairman in 2003 ( the details of which would need 3 pints ,a pipe and a warm hearth to retell.). From then on the facts speak for themselves. Fergal surrounded and assembled a committee that was as efficient as it was fun (the dirty great big haveril from Sligo and another from Mayo also played a huge part) and took the Asian Gaelic Games back where they belong into the hands of the clubs who were playing them. The 2003 and 2004 Games were the best run ever as Fergal, helped by his powerpoint presentations, persuaded people who had never heard of the games to pump large sums of money into them. It is ironic as Fergal leaves the scene that these games will revert to being run by commercial interests in 2008.
He was also instrumental in encouraging the development of the womans’ game in Asia and was the brains behind and one of the founders of the Asian County Board, which has unofficially dropped the “o” in County since he left. The 2005 Vodafone All –stars brought the greatest Gaelic footballers in the world to Hong Kong for one week. Liam Mulvihill described it at Congress as,” the best organized and enjoyable ever ,all the more so by the surprising youth of the people involved.” This was overwhelmingly down to the optimism and organizational capacity of Fergal Power.
Some of the best footballers in Asia, both women and men, have played and are playing in Hong Kong. This is in no small measure attributable to Fergal’s encouragement. In his time he has been called Frodo ,Gollum but perhaps the most appropriate would be The Lord of the Ringers as his last minute intervention in the on/off “transfer’ of a certain Korean captain from Seoul to Shanghai changed the course of the Tuam Tiger's life and the HKGAA . Fergal’s mobile saw more action and intrigue that weekend than Ronaldo’s or Robbie Keane’s agents in a lifetime. Fergal Power is going ,and we once again have dirty great big haverils from the country as President and Chairman. The past is another country but it should never be forgotten ,even with the ephemeral lifestyles we all lead on this little rock in the South China Sea. So there is nothing left to do but point out that research shows 90% of people under the age of 30 only read the first and last lines of their e-mails. Fergal Power . What an absolute bollix!
As if the Summer League bash in Delaney's last weekend wasn't enough, (sales of Nurofen went through the roof the next day apparently) we'll be having a leaving do for the one and only Fergal Power in Dublin Jacks on Saturday night at 7.30pm. If last Saturday night is anything to go by, another night of unplanned mayhem lies ahead.
The do will also be preceeded by a North Dublin XI v South Dublin XI Fergal Power/John Vickery Testimonial at King's Park starting at 1.30pm. Beer, grub and the New Zealand v South Africa Tri-Nations match will also be on the agenda here. So if you get up on Sunday with a tongue like Gandhi's flip-flop, blame Fergal Power. Good Jaysus but this could get very, very messy. .

Summer League Draft and Launch
All China Games
We will formally launch the Summer League in Delaney's on Friday April 25th. We will start the draw for the panels at 7.30pm. This will be a great opportunity for the new players to get to know their fellow teammates. It is some time since the club had an official get together so let's make every effort to be there and make it a great evening. We will also hopefully have some entertainment, but more details to follow.
The All China Games will be held in Beijing on June 7th. We expect that the club will be sending at least one men's and one women's team. Last year despite being the largest club in Asia we didn't send any teams - we need to make the effort this year. The games were held in Beijing three years ago and they were well organised and everyone had a great time. So block out that weekend. We will send out more details on the games in the coming weeks once we get them but typically what happens is: arrive Friday evening, on the session, Games on Saturday then another session, Sunday home but I guess this year it could be different as Monday is a holiday in HK.

Hong Kong GAA has been invited to participate in the most prestigious sevens event there is, the Kilmacud Crokes Sevens. This is not only a great honour for the HKGAA, but also gaelic football in Asia. The event will be held on 15 September on the eve of teh All Irlenad Final. 48 teams will compete, including the county champions from all over Ireland, as well as invited clubs. Teams are limited to 10 players per panel and games last 10 minutes per half. There are groups of 4s and 5s. Draw will be posted here later. For the event, the team will be sponsored by Cognitive Solutions. A special thank you to Jim Chester for his support and that of his company. In addition, a huge thanks to the Football Club for allowing the use of their facilities during the month of August. They were greatly appreciated.
The draw was held on 4 September in front of a watchful media. Hong Kong have been drawn against Bryansford (Down), Kickhams (Antrim), and Tuam All Stars (Galway). The group games will be played at Glenalbyn - where the finals will be played later that day.
Details of the draw may be found by clicking here
Hong Kong broke new ground again this year by competing in the Kilmacud Crokes Sevens.
The 2007 All China Games will be held in Dalian on 23 September 2007. The hosts, Dalian GAA, were formed in 2006 when they entered their first team in the Asian Games. Teams from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Taiwan, Hong Kong and hopefully Chengdu (mid west China), will take part in separate ladies and mens competitions. Hong Kong is hoping to send at least one men's and one ladies' side to the event. Dalian is one of the furthermost northern developed cities in China. It has developed a small Irish community in recent years, though teaching programs and the establishment of a number of indigenous Irish companies in the city. MOre information can be obtained here
